Carol grew up and attended Prussia #3 Country School in Adair County and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1956. On June 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Michael J. Miller in the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. To this union two daughters were born: Julie Kay and Jane Ann. In addition to her regular secretarial duties for the school, she pulled teeth for the tooth fairy, wore a Smoky Bear outfit to promote fire prevention and doctored cuts, scrapes, bruises and bumps for the students. She loved each student and treated them as her own child. She was always giving hugs to those children that she thought needed one. Carol retired after she had her liver transplant on August 15, 1994. Her motto was “No matter how busy you are or how you feel, always wear a smile.”
Carol was very active and volunteered throughout her life. She had many hobbies, her favorite was playing cards. She belonged to many card clubs - Bridge, 500, Pinochle and Pitch. She also enjoyed traveling with friends, sewing, embroidering, reading, watching the cardinals at her bird feeder and baking her famous angel food cakes. She loved spending time with her family and her many friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike Miller in 2006; and aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her two daughters, Julie Harter (husband Rod) of Greenfield and Jane King (husband Tom) of Creston; three grandchildren: Bridgett Harter, Ross King (wife Monica), and Sarah King; four great grandchildren: Damon Wallace, Nicolas King, McKinley King, and Zachary King; two sisters: Judie Zietlow (husband David) of Wauconda, Illinois and Susan Owen (husband Don) of Elkhart, Iowa and a brother-in-law, Edward Miller, Jr. (wife Karen) of Winterset; other relatives and friends.
