David Eblen, 73, of Greenfield
Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery with full military graveside rites by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Father James Ahenkora will officiate the service.
Open Visitation: Will be held at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Thursday evening at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Rosary: A Rosary Service will be held at 4:15 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield on Thursday, March 28, 2019.
Memorials: May be directed to the David Eblen memorial fund to be established by the family.
David Edward Eblen was born November 8, 1945, in Creston, Iowa, the son of Hobart and Marguerite (Rogers) Eblen. He passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019, at his home in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 73.
David was raised on the family farm north of Fontanelle. He attended grade school at Prussia No. 9 thru the 4th grade and graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1963. After high school he worked for Pickrell Trucking hauling livestock to Omaha and then Schildberg Construction Company as a lowboy operator for 37 years, retiring in 2000. He then hauled Cardinal Glass to Windsor in West Des Moines for Christie Enterprises.
David served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1965-1971. On December 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Martin in Atlantic, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Christopher David, Todd David and Jodie Ann. They lived most of their married lives in Greenfield. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, enjoyed drag racing his 1963 Chevy, bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing, trapping, concerts and traveling. He was a certified youth bowling instructor and loved going to family double tournaments with his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post and the Adair County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd David; mother and father-in-law, Wallace and Blanche Martin; niece, Melodee Martin; and brothers-in-law, Michael Marlow and Terry McDermott.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Eblen of Greenfield; son, Christopher Eblen and fiancé Kara of Greenfield; daughter, Jodie Holliday and husband Doug of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Joceline Vry (Curtis), Madaline McVay (Bryan), Zachary Eblen, Jennifer Holliday and Jorja Holliday; great grandson, Deckline Vry; sister, Margene McDermott of Omaha; cousin, Valinda Coker (John) of Norwalk; other relatives and friends.
