Elsie Boes, 94, of Fontanelle
Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Father Ken Gross will officiate the service.
Open Visitation: Will be held at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield on Friday, January 19th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield.
Prayer Service: Will be held on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield.
Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Greenfield Public Library or to the St. John’s Catholic Church for masses.
Elsie Mary Boes, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Leiting) Sanders was born June 15, 1923, in Arcadia, IA. She passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, IA, at the age of 94.
Elsie grew up on a farm near Maple River, IA and graduated from St. Frances Catholic School in Maple River. Elsie was joined in marriage to Cyril Boes on August 25, 1943, at St. Frances Catholic Church in Maple River, IA. Cyril was the son of Joseph and Appolonia (Waltz) Boes.
Elsie was a homemaker all of her working life. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, flowers, bird watching, sewing and playing cards. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield and the Altar and Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cyril Boes in 2007; son, Joseph Boes in 2013; sisters, Isabel Henrich, Doris Salisbury and Agnes Halbur; brother, Bob Sanders; and son-in-law, Dean Feld.
She is survived by her children, Glen Boes (Marsha) of Escondido, CA, Carol Ricke (Larry) of Parkersburg, Leroy Boes (Dee) of Carroll, Allen Boes (Barb) of Clive, Lynette Feld of Carroll, Steve Boes (Helen) of Winfield, IL, Jim Boes (Lynn) of Adel, Barb Merryman (Neil) of Urbandale, Jack Boes (Becky) of Fontanelle, Mary Downing (Rick) of Denver, CO, and Lisa Sullivan (Todd) of Tulsa, OK; 37 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Halbur of Carroll and Ethel Lilly of Fonda, IA; two brothers, Richard Sanders (friend Sherline) of Anaheim, CA and Kenny Sanders (Janet) of Carroll; sisters-in-law, Pat Sanders of Carroll and Marian Boes of Spring Green, WI; other relatives and friends.
