Jimmy LaVern “Louie” Christensen was born September 24th, 1951, the son of Arnold James and Gladys May (Carl) Christensen at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, IA. Jimmy passed away on Friday, December 20th at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 68.
Jimmy was raised in Grove Township in Adair County. He attended country school until the family to moved to Greenfield when he was in second grade. He was active in FFA throughout high school, and graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1970.
During high school and after graduation, Jimmy worked with his Dad, at Chris’s Refrigeration until he joined the Iowa Department of Transportation where he retired in 2009 after 35 years of service.
Jimmy always had deep fondness for farming, and in the early 80’s bought his farm east of Greenfield where he enjoyed raising and working with his horses and sheep. Jimmy was a long time member of the Adair County Lamb Producers and looked forward to helping every year at the county fair.
Louie as his family and friends knew him had many gifts but will best be remembered for his love of the outdoors. His favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing. Louie was most happy spending time with his hunting buddies and his friends who joined him on fishing trips to Canada. Jimmy enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends telling tall tales about hunting. Louie was known for his unique ability to spot a deer from a mile away.
His mother Gladys used to say about her son “Still Water Runs Deep”. He was a man of few words, but always quick to join in conversation bringing smiles and laughter to the room. He loved his leisurely drives in the country, and if you ever pulled up behind a slow moving green pickup truck in Greenfield, you never had to question whom you were following.
Jimmy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and never missed a family gathering. Whether he was stealing homemade ice cream from the container or watching a t-ball game. One thing was certain, Jimmy loved family time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Gladys Christensen.
Jimmy is survived by his two sisters, Peggie Kinney (Frank) of Prosper, TX and their children Matthew, Jordan and Tyler, Carol Woosley (Larry) of Greenfield and their children Kevin (Rhonda) Kreis, children Cameron and Caden, Kate (Kyle) Claflin, son Nathan, Eric (Melissa) Woosley.
