John Brewer, 91, of Greenfield
Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Greenfield. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately follow the service. Burial will be at the Canby Cemetery at a later date. Pastor Mark Underkofler will officiate the service.
Open Visitation: Friends may call at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield on Sunday, January 5, 2020, from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Memorials: May be directed to the family to be decided at a later date.
John Henry Brewer, Jr. passed away December 26, 2019 at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Home Health Center in Greenfield at the age of 91. He was born December 12, 1928 to John Brewer Sr and Delia (Zimmerline) Brewer in Adair County, Iowa. He attended rural schools in Adair county.
John was united in marriage to Doris Bakerink on August 12, 1948. He lived his entire life farming starting out with mules and horses before converting to the ”Big Green Tractor”. John was a hard worker and always willing to help others. John and Doris retired in 2005 moving to Greenfield.
John enjoyed playing cards and gardening. When the garage door opened and sitting in his lawn chair, he was ready to visit with anyone that stopped by. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Shirley, brothers and sister-in-laws George (Elda)Brewer, Roy (Margaret)Brewer and Jack Brewer; sisters and brother-in-law Myrtle and Elsie Brewer and Velma (Ray) Chafa; son-in-law Jim Sulentic.
John is survived by his wife, Doris; children Alan (Linda)Brewer, Brenda Sulentic and Kathy Endres. His grandchildren Kevin Brewer, Alison Werts, Jason (Melissa) Brewer, Adam Endres, Thomas and Matthew Sulentic. Seven great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews as well as many friends who loved him.
