Richard Neal, 83, of Orient

Graveside Services: Will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following at the American Legion Post No. 403 in Van Meter. Full military graveside rites will be conducted American Legion Post No. 403.   

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Richard Neal memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Richard Dean Neal, the son of Maurice M. and Zedonna (Rawson) Neal was born April 3, 1934, in Dexter, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, at the age of 83.

Dick grew up and attended school in Dexter. He enlisted in the United States Marine on June 25, 1951 and was discharged on April 2, 1954. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Auringer and they later divorced. To this union three children were born: Joyce, Louis and Richard.

Dick was a machinist and had worked for Ordance Automotive, Lockheed-Mattin in Los Angeles, CA and also for Meredith Printing. He then drove truck for Snyder Trucking in addition to other trucking companies. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a veracious reader, loved visiting with people, he could talk about anything, and loved going to Hawaii over Christmas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Craig Neal, Jim Neal and Robert Neal.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Robinson of Santan Valley, AZ; two sons, Louis (Hazel) Neal of Albany, Georgia and Richard Daniel (Sue) Neal of Des Moines; sister, Emily Sulgrove of Dexter; sister-in-law, Shirley Neal; seven grandchildren, Chris, David and Amanda Robinson, Jake and Steven Lucas and Sarah and Anna Neal; three great grandchildren, Damian, Dominic and Daijah Thompson; one great-great grandchild, Bexley Thompson; other relatives and friends.
